The Perfect Margarita

We do love a good margarita. If we can't be in Mexico year round at least we can remember it fondly until we can go back again while sipping a great reminder of one of many reasons we love Mexico so much. Last year 2 days after school was out for the year we went to Mexico for 10 days. This year we have other trips planned for the summer so Spring will be our only visit for 2011. As school is ready to release we do both wish we were headed for the sunny beaches soon.
Several years ago I was watching Martha Stewart and she shared this recipe for the perfect margarita on her show.

We only use this recipe now when we make margaritas at home. You can see this is a well used recipe. You can see the push pin holes for each time we take it off the bulletin board on which it lives to use.

The most important component of this recipe is the limes. We both like a very "limey" drink and this one fits that requirement perfectly.

Silver or blanco tequila is another must in my book.

First you squeeze 1 1/4 cup of lime juice. Today this took about 10 limes. It depends on how juicy your limes are as to exactly how many limes this takes.

Then you add 1 cup of blanco tequila, 1/3 cup orange liquor, and 1/3 cup of fine sugar. If you are making them individually you would add it all to a cocktail shaker with ice. We generally make a pitcher of margaritas so I just put it all in the pitcher with ice and stir well.

The Perfect Margarita Recipe (from Martha Stewart)
1 cup silver/blanco tequila
1/3 cup orange liquor
1 1/4 cups fresh lime juice
1/3 cup fine sugar

Juice your limes. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Shake well with ice. Serve with lime over ice. Add salt to the rim if that's your liking.
